Please take a look at our Lower Key Stage 2 Curriculum Overview. Our curriculum is planned using a 2-year cycle so that the children experience a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum across their first two years in Key Stage 2.

Advent Term 2024

Power of the Empire 

Throughout this topic, the children will learn about the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain at the time and the legacy it left us. Children will learn about how the Romans conquered Britain and why the Roman chose to invade Britain. Children will also learn about Italy and Rome and focus on developing their geographical knowledge and skills in Geography. In English, the children will study the eruption of Pompeii the the text “Escape from Pompeii”. Lent Term 2025

Journey to Ancient Egypt

Throughout this topic, the children will learn all about the Ancient Egyptians. Children will learn about when the Ancient Egyptians lived, learn about the Pharaoh Tutankhamun and the development of the pyramids. In Geography, we will explore the role the Nile had in allowing this civilisation to flourish and examine daily life, comparing it to our own. Pentecost Term 2025

One Ocean

Throughout this topic children will build their knowledge of oceans and seas around the world. They will begin to understand the different environments these represent and how they affect life on land as well as at sea. They will develop their geographical skills and build up their knowledge of food chains, the water cycle and the impact of humans on ocean life. Caveman to Iron Warrior 

Within this topic, the children will travel back in time to find out what life was like in prehistory. We will discover how life changed in Britain through the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. In Art, the children will look at and create their own cave art. The children will continue to develop their knowledge across a range of foundation subjects within this topic. Incredible Inventions 

Within this topic, the children will explore inventions that have changed our lives. We will look at different inventions from different times and places and important inventions in history. This topic includes lots of scientific investigations and experiments around electricity, forces and magnets. This knowledge will then be used in their D.T. project to create their own electronic board game. The children will also develop their knowledge across a range of foundation subjects. Pentecost Term 2024

Lights, Camera, Active 

Throughout this topic, children will discover the lasting influence of the Ancient Greeks in the western world. Children will design, research lifestyle and clothing, understand the significance of Athens and Sparta in Greece and examine the exciting Olympics and its modern legacy. The children will learn about, design and make their own Greek food in Design Technology. In Science, they will investigate light and sound and scientific concepts behind them.
