R.E Class 8

Topic Eight: Building Bridges

The Big Question: Why do we need to be forgiven and to forgive others?

In this topic, we are learning about the importance of forgiveness in our lives.  We have learnt about how we can build bridges in friendships by saying sorry or asking forgiveness. It is also very important when someone says sorry to accept their forgiveness.  Jesus tells us in the Bible we should seek to forgive 77 times or as many as needed!  We looked at The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the impact of Edmund lying and thought about how he could be reconciled to his brother and sisters. We will be exploring the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a very significant moment in our faith journey.  It is incredibly important for Christians to say sorry to God and seek His forgiveness. Through the processes of Contrition, Confession, Penance, Act of Sorrow, Absolution and Satisfaction, we are able to come into a closer relationship with God.  Several of our children made their first Confession recently and have been sharing this special experience.

Our Topic Nine will be: God's People.

We will be exploring the lives of inspirational people, including St. Mother Theresa and St. Oscar Romero.
